| Description | Running time: 45min. Silent film, full colour although the picture quality is not always crisp. Shows three different types of pig (acronym for pipeline inspection gauge).
Initial title sequence "Initial - cleaning/gauging PIG on receipt at St Fergus'. 22 sec: Pig being pulled in from the pipeline onto the pig receiver. Close up then the camera pans out. Image shaky to start with. 2mins 26: Pig pulled all the way out of the pipe. Once fully out, the camera moves alongside the pig to film its length. Extreme close ups as it is pulled away from the pipe and hosed down. 4min 50: Fades out, then shows three men cleaning the pig with a hose. Close ups of the pig, cameraman walks around it filming it from all angles. 9 min 15: Title sequence '2nd - cleaning PIG on receipt at St Fergus'. Pig filmed from above before camera turns to film fluid pouring from the mouth of the pipe. Pig hosed down. 13 min 25: Man cleaning the mouth of the pipe in light snow flurry. 14min 40: Distance shot of a group of men standing around the pig and mouth of the pipeline. 15min 01; Title sequence '3rd - Dimension PIG on receipt at St Fergus'. Filmed on the 23rd November. Shows the entrance hatch to the pipe being opened. Pig pulled out with liquid pouring out. Close up of the very dirty pig and the mouth of the pipeline. 21min 17: Title sequence 'Final - intelligent PIG on receipt at St Fergus'. Above shot of the pipe's mouth. The chain pulling the pig out becomes detached. The second attempt is successful. This pig is larger and heavier, so the process is slower than with the previous pigs and requires more equipment. Camera is shaky in places. Close up shots of the pig once it has been removed from the pipeline. 34min: Chains attached to the pig and crane lifts it. Men steady it. Placed on a truck and hosed down. 39min: Static until 43min 50 when pig is shown on the ground being jethosed in a fenced-off area. |
