| Description | Letter from David Skene, Edinburgh to [his father] Andrew Skene, in which he describes his journey to Edinburgh; it has taken nearly three weeks to travel from London but they made many diversions; spent one day at the house of Judge Gordon in Hertfordshire, three days in Cambridge, one day in Uppingham, three days in Derbyshire with a Mr Slater and they visited Chatsworth. He describes it as 'a very short sketch of my travels through the finest country I have ever seen. Scotland was a truly mortifying sight after it.' His concern now is to sell his mare, 30 June 1753. |
