Title | Papers of David Skene: correspondence: Letter from David Skene to John Hope |
Date | 18 January 1766 |
Extent | 1 item |
Creator Name | David Skene (1731 - 1770), M.D., of Aberdeen |
Description | Letter from David Skene to John Hope in which he promises to send further specimens; he asks about the progress Hope has made in the crypt. class and when he might publish; he also asks what has occured about the 'Mezerion experiment' and whether Dr. Gilchrist's paper on 'the Sibbins' will be published; he discusses the disease believing it is gaining ground and remarking that it is like venereal disease in its symptoms yet it may lurk longer in the system than veneral disease. He also believes it is more easily communicated; he tells of two curious cases of women who were near term in their pregnancies so he did not treat them in the normal way but discovered that post labour, they were both completely cured; he does not feel he can venture an opinion about the list of simples that should appear in their pharmacopeia as he thinks that that part of their prescriptions stands on 'a wretched footing'; he asks about the elections and mentions that he has written to Lord Kames, 18 January 1766. |
