Adams was not able to get back in time to see Mamou, but was present at the burial. Where there were so many people that the cemetery could not hold them, so the village gathered on the river bank in silence to pay their respects. Adams describes her as 'a woman of great gentleness and dignity, and sinning goodness.' Adams feels she could never repay Mamou for the kindness she gave to her from the first day of her time in the village. |
