Description | 'The Terra Nova's crow's nest as seen from the deck. Note the topgallant-sail and upper topsail beyond, and on the right below the top of our funnel. The long torpedo-like structure between is one of our staysails. The ring round the barrel is for resting the telescope on during ice navigation, or in pursuing whales. The entrance to the barrel is from below by a rising trap door. The man at the extreme masthead is busy making some alteration on the weather-vane.' |
