DescriptionLetter to James Gordon of Letterfourie, London, from his nephew Patrick Duff, Calcutta, regarding paying his debts, glad to hear news of his good health, appointment to the command of the artillery in the Nabob’s service, hoping that it will give him an independency in his own country, the appointment is through Mr Hastings’ interest and will not survive his departure, hoping that things will be settled in Mr Hastings’ favour in England, he had thought that General Clavering would have helped him but he has done the opposite, his brother William is well, and Mr Lawtie is in need of support, 18 August 1777
