DescriptionLetter to Alexander Gordon, Letterfourie, from his brother James, London, regarding poor prospects of harvest in north, wanting to help, no use applying to Danzig as the Baltic will be shut to navigation soon, and other places the same, failure of crops in England except wheat, illegal to move foreign oats by sea from the port of their first arrival, English oats are expensive but can be had, while peas and beans cannot, neutral ships are very expensive, too, his own financial situation, suggestion of getting a neighbouring laird to share the cost, possibility of buying Edinvillie, mention of floorcloth and warming pan: ‘the times rather demand sending bread to the Country than ornamental things to our houses’, glad to hear of Mrs Gordon’s recovery, 22 October 1782
