DescriptionLetter to Alexander Gordon, Letterfourie, from his brother James, London, with news of British victory in America, a fleet has arrived safely from the Leeward Islands but there is now an embargo on Tobago, hopes of sending porter north next week, ‘I know you are damn’d loth to send your carts and horses to Banff, I can’t help that; good liquor and plenty of it will make you not repine’, a ship with a mixed cargo for Madeira has now been delayed two months, and to insure another would cost too much, 24 September 1779
