DescriptionLetter to Alexander Gordon, Letterfourie, from his brother James, London, complaining at receiving no response to his letters or the letters he copied from Madeira, asking if Tochieneal is dead or alive, the tremor in his hands is growing worse but he still writes more and more usefully than Alexander, fearing it will be a bad year for business, ‘I have ordered … N & Sons to freight any good Dutch or foreign ship (by no means a British bottom) to go to Dantzig and load for Madeira', order of herring from Gothenburg and flax from Dundee, and brandy from France so that they will be short of cash, letter for Mrs Riddoch from her husband via a young midshipman home suffering from consumption, Riddoch in very good health on St Helena, poor trade in Bencoolin but leaving for China soon, 14 March 1777
