DescriptionPart of letter from James Gordon of Letterfourie, London, to his brother Alexander, Letterfourie, regarding young Aberlour’s plans and his desire to help, though not sure how, response from Lord North not the one they wanted, sending wheat, dressed flax and a bale of Norwich cloths to Madeira, plans of various captains, wine for India and for British forces in North America, payments to George Riddoch to invest in his speculations, he has locks and spades ready to send to Letterfourie except for those for the servants’ hall which he asks Alexander to have made locally, McKilligin’s vessel is thought to have foundered off Yarmouth but Riddoch’s things went by the Aberdeen smack and are arrived safely, paying for Patrick Duff’s passage from Madeira to India though the captain will not take payment in wine, financial arrangements, arranging for Innes to work for James Stephen, lawyer, to learn English forms, Stephen is ‘amazing acute and clever’ but has no steadiness, sorting out Innes’ estate, problems with a precept of clare constat [breaks off], 15 December 1775
