DescriptionLetter from Alexander Gordon in Madeira to his brother James Gordon of Letterfourie, ‘I must now acknowledge the receipt of the work’d ruffles you sent me as a specimen of my little Girl’s ability in that way they are I believe very good of their kind tho quit against my goust, as I wear none now wish you had keepd them. In regard to her future establishment in the world I am really entirely at a loss what to say in the first place I have very little leisure to think on such things and if I had do not think myself capable to digest them properly, being a stranger to many circumstances and inconvenienceys that might be objected to any plan that I could suggest … Give me leave only to say that rather than see or hear of her marrying a ploughman in Scotland I would be for her running all chances and risques in the world’, pleased with his housekeeper, ‘I see how it is with our poor Sister whose condition is truly to be Lamented, God help her, and may she and her poor family never want you,’ cost of Frenches House to which he has moved, 22 September 1762.
