DescriptionCopy letter to James Gordon of Letterfourie, London, from Daniel Henry Smith, Madeira, regarding cargo received in good order via Cooper, glad to receive flax, Watt will dispose of wine intended for Atkinson who cannot pay, short of money as there is money stuck in Cadiz for them, trying to send malmsey by cheapest method, trying to reduce colours of wine, and more will be lost on the voyage, agreeing with Gordon’s theory that the market will not last for ever, but anxious that those in Madeira have no plans for the future and keep raising the prices, one of their competitors has done very well by the India trade and is very self-important, political problems in Boston, high prices of wine parcels on the island, intention of looking after Mr Lee’s female passengers, William Duff was unable to get a transport but will remain in Madeira learning the language which will be of use to him in India, sales of sundry wines to Indian ships, trying to be of assistance to Chalies & Dolignon in this regard, list of bills, 2 May 1774
