| Administrative History | A reception celebrating Kosterlitz's eightieth birthday was held in Cambridge on 11 April 1983. The event was organised by former colleague, John Hughes, Director of the Parke-Davis Research Unit, Cambridge and Aberdeen colleagues Gordon Lees and Stewart Bourner. Many friends and colleagues were in attendance to witness the presentation of a commemorative album and plates to Kosterlitz and his wife. |
| Description | 'Red Book' compiled as a tribute to Kosterlitz on the occasion of his eightieth birthday, containing photographs and greetings from friends and colleagues, a photograph of Kosterlitz and Professor Milton taken after his honorary graduation LLD from the University of Aberdeen, two photographs of the Forresterhill complex (past and present), and three photographs of Kings and Marischal Colleges. A dedication inside the volume reads: 'This volume was presented to Professor Hans W Kosterlitz, F R S by past and present associates on the occasion of his Eightieth Birthday in recognition of outstanding achievements in research and for his friendship over many years'.
