| Administrative History | Kosterlitz was an active and long-serving member of the British Pharmacological Society. His contributions to the society and the profession were recognised in 1980 by an honorary membership and his award, in 1987, of the society's Wellcome Gold Medal. This award was made biennially 'for outstanding contributions to pharmacology based mainly on research achievements' (cited from the society's constitution, June 1980).
