| Administrative History | Aberdeen Corporation first assumed control of public transport in Aberdeen through its operation of the tramways. The Corporation bus fleet expanded from the 1920s onwards and increasingly became part of 'Aberdeen Corporation Transport'.
Aberdeen Corporation Transport Department was run by a General Manager, assisted by a deputy general manager (in charge of traffic), a commercial and administrative officer (in charge of wages and tickets), and a rolling stock engineer (in charge of repairs). The General Manager reported to the Transport Convener who chaired the Transport Committtee, a strategic policy body. Until 1950 the chairmanship of the Transport Committee was a politically influential position, and several conveners went on to the lord provostship. After 1975 local authorities were reorganised and transport became a regional rather than municipal concern.
