Administrative HistoryHenry Hastings, 5th Earl of Huntingdon the grandson of the 4th Earl of Huntingdon, was born in 1586 at Exton. As a boy he was smaller than average but handsome and quick-witted. He was styled Lord Hastings from 1595, and admitted to Gray's Inn in 1597/8. In 1601 he married Elizabeth, daughter of the Earl of Derby, and inherited the title in 1604. He was at different times Lord Lieutenant of Leicestershire and of Rutland, and died at Ashby-de-la-Zouche in 1643, to be succeeded by his son.
