He was a professional family historian and genealogist who produced and published transcripts of many north-east of Scotland Episcopal Church registers, as well as registers of other denominations. |
| Description | Collection of 63 unrelated writs concerning land in and around Aberdeen: these include Aickinstank, Arrieburn, Auchquhorthies, Boddochraw, Brunthill, Clubsgowhill, Clunis, Easter Crechie, Hawkhillock, Hilton, Kingcairnie, Kinghorn, Kinmundy, Kinnochy, Knappis, Lochhils, Millhill, Millbrek, New Cluny, Owerhill, Perwinnies, Petmagoak, Pettimarcus, Pitlurgie, Pitriffnie, Quhytrasches, Straloch, salmon-fishing at the Bishop's Cavell, the Fords and the Pott on the Dee and on the Don at the Bridge of Balgownie, 1504 - 1733.
Compared to the NRAS list there are 5 missing documents; numbers 8, 16, 17, 28 and 60.
8 - Charter of William Alschenour, burgess of Aberdeen, to his son John Alschenor, burgess, and his heirs, of the fishings of Ly Pott on the River Dee, to be held in fee of teh provost and baillies of Aberdeen for the paymeny of £4 2s Scots at two terms of the year (Contains conditions as in number 7). 16 - Instrument of sasine following on a feu charter by the provost (etc.) of Aberdeen, in favour of Alexander Kempt, burgess of Aberdeen and his heirs, of the salmon fishings of Ly Pott on the River Dee. Notary, Thomas Mollisone, Clerk of the Diocese of Aberdeen, 7 August 1598 (the seal of William Gray, baillie of the burgh who gave sasine is appended).
17 - Charter by Alexander Seytoun of Touchfresis, Lord of Kynmundeis, in favour of John Gordoun of Lunigar, of the lands of Kynmundeis, with their pertinents, comprising the town of Kynmundy, le Mylhill, le Mylbrek, Pettimarcus and Kynknokky (all near Mintlaw, Aberdeenshire), to be held of the King for the services used and wont. Witnesses: William Scot of Balvery, knight, Robert Inneis of Innermerky, James Gordone of Auchmykiy, John Pytone, John Inneis, William Pantone and John Gray, notary public. Edinburgh 16 April 1506 (seal appended).
28 - Charter of alienation by John Arthour, burgess of Aberdeen, in favour of John Robertsoune, junior, burgess of Aberdeen, of the half-nets fishing of Ly Furdis on the Dee, to be held of the provost, baillies and community of the burgh for the payment of 33s 6d at two terms in the year. 60 - Instrument of sasine following on from a disposition and alienation by Francis Irvine of Hiltoune, in favour of James Gordoun of Seatoune, in liferent, and Master John Gordoun his son, of the town and lands of Clubsgowell with the mill and mill lands of the same, the town and lands of Lochhills, Haulkhillock, North and South Arrieburns, Perwinnies, Boddochraw, a half-net salmon fishing in Lie Bishop's Cavell on the Don, with other fishings pertaining to theses lands and the town and lands of Hiltoune, in the parishes of Old and New Machar, reserving a free tenement of these lands and a life-rent of £240 Scots to the grantor.
