Bond by Mr Gilbert Burnett, son of deceased Alexander Burnett of Leyis, to Alexander Burnett of Leyis, his brother, in payment of all legacies and other sums pertaining to him through the decease of his parents, 5th August 1597.
Letter to Sir Alexander Burnett of Leyis from the Earl of Dunfermline concerning allegations to the king that the ministers at the assembly of Aberdeen " did nothing... bot that quhilk Mr Johne Forbes had my advyse counsall and consent to befoir". He does not believe that Forbes has done him "ayne sic wrang", and does not feel he will be held responsible by the king for events at Aberdeen. The King , he believes, is anxious that there should be no assembly until after parliament is concluded. Discusses events in some detail, and seeks any comment on matters that Burnett has to offer. His wife has given birth to a daughter the previous day. Dunfermline, 18th April 1606.
Same correspondents as above. Dunfermline is anxious that Burnett should not behave "straitlye and hardlye" towards the earl of Angus concerning " his teind selver quhilk was a pairt of the tak". Edinburgh, 6th August 1605.
Same correspondents as above. Thanks Burnett very cordially for his letter in which he expresses great contentment at Dunfermline's fortunate and happy return home. Dunfermline has renewed his acquaintance with the Marquess of Hamilton prior to the latter's departure to Hamilton. Discusses in detail legal and estate matters of common interest.
