Description | Correspondence addressed to Bishop Alexander Jolly, Fraserburgh, 1796 - 1834. Including:
Letter from the Very Reverend Dean Walker, sending a subscription of resolution by the clergy of Edinburgh expressing their attachment to the form of liturgy used by them. Huntly, 14th March 1834;
Letter from Bishop Skinner on "the present frail state of the Episcopate" and the revision of diocesan boundaries intended to remedy this, Aberdeen. 27 June 1833;
Letter from the same [Bishop Skinner] complaining of the "enormous non-intercourse" between the members of the Episcopal College. "I have not had a single episcopal letter save from yourself, since we met in August". He has heard that the Duke and Duchess are about to build a new chapel at Fochabers at a cost of £800 or £900, "I wish they may take care to make it a Scottish Episcopal one and have nothing more to do with English or Irish adventurers". Aberdeen, 10 December 1832;
Letter from Charles Fyvie, enclosing a report from the Highlands. The writer is unwilling to think that Inverness should be finally separated from the Diocese of Moray, and cannot reconcile himself to the idea. Describes the opening of the new chapel at Fortrose at which the writer officiated. He has learnt that the Duke and Duchess of Gordon had resolved to build an episcopal chapel at Fochabers. Suggests that the bishop should write to one or the other to encourage this. Inverness, 23 November 1827;
Letter by Bishop William Abernethy Drummond concerning the writer's annexation of the Gaelic part of the Diocese of Moray to that of Ross, with a draft of Skinner's reply. Edinburgh, 24 March 1798. |
