DescriptionLetter from Amelia Nyasa Laws, 7 Via Venti Settembre, Rome, to her relatives, regarding Miss Jazdowska's decision to give up the apartment downstairs and consequent loss of income; she is worried about Poland; Mrs. Brock will not come out this winter as she has too much to do in London; Mrs. Brock never intended to spend the winter with Miss Jazdowska and Miss Jazdowska never intended to stay because she did not have her way over the electric light [There were Jazdowskis associated with teaching and art in Aberdeen: James Bronislas Jazdowski, son of John, teacher in Aberdeen, graduated from Marischal College in 1856 and according to an annotation of the Search Room student list died in Rome in 1902]; she has not given the requisite notice but must be held to it for the sake of church funds; it will be a relief to see her go; she demanded attention and Mrs. Brock felt that Amelia could go down and read to her, as if she had nothing better to do; Mrs. Bragg must go to the Blue Nuns' hospital for she is dying; she has an enlarged liver, perhaps cancerous, and is on morphia; Annie Brown has had a daughter; the card from her husband came this week and was not entirely complimentary to mother or child; Amelia is attending the dentist; details of problems with her teeth; music practice helps her to forget the pain; she is to return to lessons with Mr. Green soon; pleasant weather in the mornings and storms in the afternoons; the grapes are ruined; Ernesta is still doing well; Uncle does not like her appearance at all; a visitor seems to have arrived so Amelia will have to see to the supper; thanks for letter; Uncle and Aunt remember Mr. Macdonald of Skelmorlie.
