DescriptionLetter from Amelia Nyasa Laws, Metz, to her relatives, late after returning from a walk and the German service, which is pleasanter for her than the French one, the music is familiar and the sermons are more like home, both the preachers are good, M. Brunel and his wife were missionaries in Tahiti, and she does not like them, they do not interfere with her any more now that they have discovered she spends time corresponding with her parents who are missionaries in Africa, Dr. Louis, one of the doctors, has cerebral influenza and is not likely to recover, visit to Miss Leigh Clare and Miss Scobell above the kitchen, description of kitchen, laundry and central heating, and waste disposal, Miss Leigh Clare and Miss Scobell have their own kitchen for preparing special diets, both are older women, pleasant and sincere, there are actually fewer expenses in living in the hospital than she thought, and Mlle. Stoufflet does not need an extra 10 francs a month from her, which she uses to pay for nice little dishes for the officers, the surgeons have no idea what goes on in massage and have not troubled themselves to find out, they allow too short a time for treatment, and she is not being given serious cases, most of the surgical patients are civilians suffering from war wounds, the X-ray doctor is offering to help her find better equipment and showed her the installation for massage under water put in by the Germans, with description, the whole hospital cost over 6,000,000 marks, she now has a very good massage table, plans for improving her conditions still further, as she likes the hospital, the centre for all of Lorraine, she is enclosing samples of wood-fibre canvas [absent], German-made, with description.
