DescriptionLetter from Amelia Nyasa Laws, Edinburgh, to her parents, relieved to be rid of Aunt Amy, who is very jealous of Aunt, she feels she should be revered because of her brother and her brother-in-law, fussiness over the way Aunt introduces her to people, Amelia is worried that she will have hallucinations on the subject, she is spending too much on lodgings just so that people can call on her, the bed is in 'the worst position for her decided intestinal weakness', she has too much luggage, Uncle will not allow her any control over her money, and this annoys her, Amelia is not surprised at his saying 'I have had so much to do for my mother's family', brief account of Uncle's time in Buchan, costly summer, Uncle shocked at Aunt Amy's ingratitude, visit to Principal Henderson to play the piano, his recollections of Dr. Stewart of Leghorn, Mr. Turner's organ recital, two artists from the Hydropathic, a violinist and a cellist, were also good, the sale of her bicycle paid for her lessons with Mr. Turner, final visits to friends in the neighbourhood, G.B. Barbour has had a severe time at the hands of his Quaker mother, who would not let him fight and sent him to Italy with the Quaker Ambulance Unit, he refused help from his relatives when they offered to intercede on his behalf, but enlisted as a private, earned his commission and returned to Italy with the Artillery, he is now engaged to an American lady, daughter of a doctor, 'I wonder what type of womanhood she represents!'.
