DescriptionLetter from Amelia Nyasa Laws, 7 Via Venti Settembre, Rome, to her relatives, regarding Aunt's involvement with Mrs. Cardinali who is determined to leave her nursing home and go home; she has wearied all her friends and abused her servant; she has been spoiling herself and so objects to the doctor's regimen; Miss Forster Walker has lost her money but is still spending and raking up debt, including brandy bills; Lady Meath, her cousin, is having to curtail her own charitable giving as her income is much reduced; she hopes to continue Miss Forster Walker's allowance; Mrs. Pearce hopes that Aunt will look after her when she is old; Amelia thinks that Aunt is probably a little older than Mrs. Pearce; Milne Rae probably put the article in B.W. about Uncle's jubilee; 100 soldiers (all from hydroplanes) and 6 sailors were entertained at the Britannia Hotel; the soldiers were on their way to Salonika; Mrs. Brock and Miss Jazdowska were there [There were Jazdowskis associated with teaching and art in Aberdeen: James Bronislas Jazdowski, son of John, teacher in Aberdeen, graduated from Marischal College in 1856 and according to an annotation of the Search Room student list died in Rome in 1902]; Muriel is a little better and Mrs. Brock is proposing a visit to the seaside, a return to Rome, then a return to England; Miss Jazdowska's maid is looking forward to their departure; Mrs. Polkinghorne's foot is recovering nicely; she is a good patient; Miss Trewhella's clever paper-folding arrangement called 'the Kaiser's passport to heaven', which she describes, along with the story to tell with it; mention again of letter from Mlle. Perolaz in hospital in Lyon; she is enjoying the work; Amelia has written to Aix to ask about the Bristol; the posts are very slow; Uncle does not mind early enquiries about accommodation being made this year; Bordes is now exempt from military service but wishes to continue his own treatment; Dufau has thanked her for the French harmony of the Gospels she sent; Tonia has at last written from Russia but has been ill with angina, pleurisy and influenza; she is very sensitive; thanks for letters.
