DescriptionBundle of maps of Turkey and the Balkans. Many of the maps have been produced for the General Staff or the Naval Staff Intelligence Department during or immediately after the First World War. One blank map of Anatolia (item 6) has had extensive details of mineral occurrences and mining added by hand.

1. Map of Aleppo from the Ottoman Empire: 1:500,000 scale map published by the War Office; based on of Kiepert's map of Asia Minor. With stamp of Admiralty War Staff, Intelligence Division. Approx 87x64 cm, coloured, mounted on canvas. Another copy in MS 3286/8/5/8.

2. Map of the Balkan Peninsula. Two sheet map: "Balkan-Halbinsel Blatt I/II" by C. Vogel, published by Justus Perthes, Gotha. Described as "Srielers Hand-Atlas No. 51/52", with printed note "Reproduction de la carte des Balkans de Stieler, S.G.A. 1915". Coloured map, scale 1:1,000,000, appr. 72x58cm. [A - B]

3. Map of Cankiri, Anatolia. Ordnance Survey Asia Minor 1:250,000 series map with title Changiri, April 1919. Coloured map, approx. 65x61cm.

4. Photographic copy of topographic map of Turkey and the eastern Mediterranean, marked "Naval Staff I.D.", no other printed names or rubrics. Some major place names have been added in ink. Approx. 67x46 cm.

5. Outline map of Anatolia, marked "Naval Staff I.D." and "Ordnance Survey 1920", approx. 73x55 cm; six copies.
On one copy, the following additions have been made by hand:
Title "Anatolia. Working mines and chief mineral deposits. Key with list of various minerals, colour-coded and with individual symbols, with rough pencil list of abbreviated names added subsequently. The various ore and mineral symbols are marked on the map in colour. [A - COLOUR, B- BLANK]

6. Copy outline map of Turkey, approx. 45x33 cm. Blank.

7. Map showing the administrative divisions of Turkey in Asia: "Aperçu genéral de la division administrative des provinces Asiatiques de l'Empire Ottoman" following the reorganisation of AH 1300/AD 1883-84, by H. Kiepert, published Berlin 1884. Coloured map on paper, appr. 61x51 cm.

8. Map of Asia Minor: administrative divisions by the Ordnance Survey 1921 for Naval Staff Intelligence Department, scale 1:250,00. Map on paper in black and red, appr. 69x51 cm.

9. Map of "Gulf of Alexandretta. Eastern shore" scale 1:100,000, marked "I.D.N.S."; Ordnance Survey May 1918. Coloured map on paper, appr. 36x89 cm.

10. Four sheets from the 1:1,000,000 scale map of Asia compiled by the Royal Geographical Society for the Geographical Section, General Staff, and printed at the War Office 1916; each sheet approx. 66x57 cm.
The sheets are Sinob and Izmir/Smyrna (both Provisional Edition) and Erzerum and Batum (both Second Provisional Edition). [A - D]

11. Sheet "Istanbul/Constantinople" from the 1:1,000,00 scale International Map of Eirope compiled for the Geographical Section of the General Staff, with boundaries as revised November 1918. Coloured map on paper, appr. 66x64 cm.

12. Map of Mesopotamia, scale 1:500,000, Compiled by the Admiralty War Staff and drawn and printed by the Ordnance Survey, October 1918. Marked Sheet X, and with pencil note "Unrevised". Coloured map on paper, appr. 45x75 cm.
