DescriptionFascicle folder with the title "Sardis VI Part II: Lydian Inscriptions. W.H. Buckler 1924" containing envelopes with a variety of photographs, including some reproduced in MAMA VI, together with letters and notes to Calder from William Ramsay and other researchers, mostely 1920s and 1930s; 10 sub-bundles:

1. Envelope with nine negatives and nine prints of inscribed stones

2. Small envelope addressed to "Prof Calder, Presley Cottage Dunphail", postmarked Edinburgh 3 August 1933) containing negatives of three private photographs (car and motot cycle) together with a strip print of an inscription . Prints are marked on the back with numbers beginning with VI.

3. Envelope addressed to Buckler at Oxford containing 8 prints and one negative of inscribed stones. Some prints are cut down, and mist have R references, vol. VI references, or single reference numbers on the reverse, also a print of a publication c. 1700 showing a stone from the Armenian Cemetry in Smyrna.

4, Photographer's envelope, old reference MS 3286/9/3.vi, with negatives and prints of Byzantine frescos. References on the reverse of the printsare to a hermit's cell or tomb at Kulkeliu [?]

5. Seventeen prints of inscribed stones, some with single numbers or measurements but no other reference. Clipped to one photograph, a letter from Calder to Buckler dated 11 March 1928, duscussing the reading.

6. Folder with large print of inscription, old reference 3286/9/2 in pencil on reverse

7. Large later envelope, old reference MS 3286/9/2.iii, addressed to Calder, containing: letter to Calder from Anderson, dated only "March 17" discussing a reading and the related controversy; sheet of rough notes and transcriptions;, and a smaller envelope marked "Takarby" [?] with 11 photographs, mainly general site views. One, showing a Turkish group standing round a walled pool, is marked Seidi-Sabeton [?] on the reverse. Also card with transcription and notes.

Letters and notes:

8. Letters, partial letters, and notes to Calder and Buckler, mainly from Sir William Ramsay 1926 - 1938 and undated; also from other scholars, including Calder on Grégoire, and from Hyde, Runciman, and Anderson. The letters and notes concern readings of inscriptions, questions of publication, and related matters. They include correspondence to Buckler from Manchchester University Press 1928, and to Calder from Manchester University press 1954. A letter to Calder from Hyde 1951 encloses a mounted drawing of a carved stone. A number of the notes, mostly in Ramsay's hand, relate to the Charter of Orhistos.

9. Recent brown encelope containing various notes and transcriptions; a photograph of an inscription; a pencilled checklist with reference numbers of inscriptions, many marked as Christian, and places; a description (7 pages handwritten) in Calder's hand of explorations in 1928 and 1932, possibly a draft for publication; and a route map of the area to the south-west of Konya with routes marked in red, titled "Routenkarte ... gezeichnet von Julius Jüthner", with pencil note "Received from J. Keil 27 Jan 32"

10. Printed French map of Turkey in Asia, sheet 3 Asia Minor. Divisions marked in red and blue. Undated.
