DescriptionBundle of six field notebooks, as follows:

1. Black landscape format notebook, worn binding, dated on first page 1910, with pencil drawings of Greek inscribed stones at Konya. Also contains three loose letters: a typed and handwritten letter from William Ramsay dated Edinburgh, 10 June 1916 discussing topography and Greek place names in Asia Minor, with a manuscript list of the places there from which Ramsay has inscriptions; a manuscript letter in German from Hermann Dessau, dated Berlin 4 June 1910, thanking Calder for sending him an inscription from Iconium, which has interested and puzzled him; and a letter from T. Callander, dqted Insch, 15 September 1910, listing Phrygian inscriptions which calder has requested.

2. Black upright format notebook, dated on first page "R & C 1911", with drawings of Greek inscribed stones

3.. Black upright format notebook, dated on first page "William Calder Brasenose College Oxford 1912", with drawings of Greek inscribed stones. Several of these transcriptions have circled dates [?] a928 or 1932 entered beside them. The notebook also contains a sketch map of locations various loose enclosures: transcriptions and notes, and an incomplete letter [from Ramsay] dated Edinburgh, 27 March 1914, with a drawing of an inscription fom Armasun and a discussion of the Greek forms it contains.

4. Black upright format notebook, dated on first page "Reach Ak Shehir 14h May 1913", with the usual drawings and transcriptions, also containing a note from Buckler dated October 1925 querying whether a proper name on an inscription might be related to the Bourtzes who appears in the Alexias, and a letter in French from Bernard Hannoullier date Paris November 1922, asking Calder to send him his two articles as soon as possible.

5. Black upright format notebook, dated on first page "WM. Calder The University Manchester, Angora May 24th, 1924", with the usual drawings and transcriptions, but also some longer notes, and with numbered lists at the end, including a list of plates. Loosely inserted, a note or page of a letter in German, unsigned and undated, discussing a funerary inscription from Sedase.

6. Red notebook, labelled on front cover "WM Calder Konia June 1924" [but with 1924 scored through, and a reference to 1923 at top of label]. Contains numbered lists of inscriptions and/or references at the start; most of the notebook is blank, and it does not contain the usual drawings of monuments.Loosely inserted: two letters from Buckler dated 1 and 15 March 1934, discussing questions of publication, and loose notes with transcriptions
