TitleField notebooks 1908 and undated
Date1908 - 1912
Extent3 volumes
Description1, 2. Two field notebooks, one dated 1908 on front cover and signed "WM Calder Ch[rist] Ch[urch] Oxford, the other undated but bundled with the first.
Both notebooks contain pencil transcriptions and drawings of Greek inscriptions. The second (undated) notebook also has sketch maps of find locations. The dated book also contains some loose enclosures, including a letter from the German Classical scholar Hermann Dessau to Calder at Ankara, dated Berlin-Charlottenburg 1 July 1910, replying to a letter from Calder and discussing Greek inscriptions.
There is some evidence that the notebooks were revisited at various times: for instance, towards the end of the notebook there is a (later?) note indicating a copied inscription published in MAMA volume I.377. There are also some cross-references to previously published material. The last few pages contain a series of numbers linked to place names (possibly longitudinal readings?).

3. Field notebook, dated 1908 on front cover and signed "WM Calder 180 King St Aberdeen" on the first page. List of places with coordinates on first page, and list of photographs on 3rd page; further topographical lists at end of the volume.. The rest of the notebook contains drawings of inscribed stones and transcriptions, some notes and cross-references, with some later additions. Also various loose inserts:
Note from Hermann Dessau, dated Charlottenburg, 14 January 1909, discussing a reference in Eugenius to a person named Kallinikos, a name which appears on one of Calder's inscriptions
Postcard to Calder at Konya from Sir William Ramsay, postmarked Aberdeen 7 July 1910, listing Latin names from an inscribed stone, and another to Calder at Constantinople, postmarked Edinburgh 14 July 1910, discussing Greek readings; also two letters to Clader from Ramsay, dated Edinbuurgh 21 and 22 April 1912, suggesting readings and discussing travel arrangements
Postcard to Calder frm Adolf Wilhelm, dated Vienna 24 June 1910, with a suggestion for his commentary on an inscription of Eugenius
Bill from Hotel de las Gare, Konya, dated 22 Jun3 1912
Letter to Calder from J.F Hairenfield[?], 7 December 1912 referring to a proposed journal publication and references to Constantine and other rulers in two inscriptions.
