Administrative HistoryLockhart's 'Apes and Ivory, Skulls and Roses' lecture appears to have looked at breeding and pedigrees, using examples and analogies from horticulture, human and animal development. A stand-alone lecture called 'Rhododendrons and Roses' appears to have developed from it, lavishly illustrated with flowering examples from Lockhart's own garden, as well as illustrations and photographs from books.
DescriptionLecture notes (manuscript and typescript) for various lectures on the theme of 'Apes and Ivory, Skulls and Roses'; newspaper cuttings regarding race horses, pedigree cattle, etc.; illustrative photographs and slides; correspondence, pedigrees and photographs from James Durno, C.B.E., farmer and cattle breeder.
