| Administrative History | Alexander Dyce Davidson was born in Aberdeen in 1807, graduated AM from Marischal College in 1825, and received a DD from Marischal College in 1854. He was called to the South Church in the city in 1832, and to the West Church in 1840, which parish he led into the Free Church at the Disruption of 1843. He was a scholarly and popular minister, particularly influential amongst the students of the two universities there, and was a leading evangelist in Aberdeen. He chose to devote his life to parish work and preaching, published only sermons and took no part in public life. He died in Aberdeen, still Free Church minister of West Church, in 1872. |
