Description | Public lectures and addresses on various health and welfare issues (both national and international), delivered by Mary Esslemont, 1930s-1970s. The earliest records in the sub-series include 'mother-and-baby' lectures (including ante-natal and post-natal care) given to Aberdeen mothers during the 1930s and 1940s. Others include general addresses given to, or on behalf of, organisations such as the British Medical Association, Women's Medical Association, Mother and Baby Home, Aberdeen Children's Shelter, Scottish Council on Social Services, etc. Some lectures, particularly those from the 1940s and 1950s, also have significant political content and may have been used for political lobbying before and after the 1945 general election: her main political addresses are, however, listed separately in MS 3179/6/2. |
