DescriptionNotes for 'mother-and-baby' talks given by Mary Esslemont to her patients during the 1930s and 1940s. Includes one short series of numbered talks describing the ante-natal period, care of breasts, diet, clothing, accidents, morning sickness, requirements of lying-in period (introductory lecture); the benefits of ante-natal care, hygiene of pregnancy, infectious diseases, normal infant management (lecture 1); ante-natal care of breasts, timing and quantity of feeds, reasons for failure to breast feed (lecture 2); artificial feeding (lecture 3). There are also notes on 'Popular Fallacies' (examples cited include 'that it is necessary to swat a baby's mouth', 'that a baby needs a binder', 'that a baby should be needs feeding during the night') , 'Weaning', 'Feeding after nine months', and 'Infectious Diseases.'
