Administrative HistoryDavid Thomson was Professor of Natural Philosophy at King's College (and the University of Aberdeen from 1860) from 1845-1880. Born at Leghorn in November 1817 he was educated in Italy and Switzerland and studied at Glasgow University and Trinity College, Cambridge. He was appointed professor-substitute of Natural Philosophy at the University of Glasgow before his appointment at King's and he played an important part in the process that led to the formation of the University in 1860. He was also Secretary of the Senatus Academicus.

DescriptionFamily correspondence and other papers relating to David Thomson, Professor of Natural Philosophy at King's College and Aberdeen University, 1845-1880. The collection does not contain any letters or papers by David Thomson himself, being for the most part correspondence to him or between members of his family.
