| Description | Auroral and noctilucent cloud observations made at Kirkwall, Orkney from January 1931 to July 1939 (with gaps). The observations were made by George W. Reid. Reid sent his data to Dr. A. Crichton Mitchell (1864 - 1952), a Scotsman who made large contributions to geomagnetism and meteorology studies. Mitchell is credited with the invention of indicator loops: a technique used to locate submarines. |
