Framed photograph entitled "Our party across the Australian continent" commemorating the Kintore-Stirling expedition across the Australian continent in 1891, travelling from Port Darwin on April 8, 1891, arriving in Adelaide on May 23, 1891. The photograph has at its centre the Earl of Kintore seated next to E.C. Stirling M.D. with the other members of the expedition gathered around them, including three Aborigines, 'Willie', 'Jimmie' and 'Louis'.

This expedition was undertaken by the South Australian Governor, the Earl of Kintore, and the South Austalian Museum Director, Dr Edward Stirling, by horse and buggy. The purpose was to allow the governor to assess the economic state of the Northern Territory. Stirling's role was to gauge the severity of anthrax affecting cattle and to collect anthropological and natural history specimens for his museum. |
