DateApr - 1893 - Aug 1893
Extent1 volume
DescriptionAlbum covering the period April to August 1893, containing letters, invitations, photographs, programmes and cuttings from newspapers recording the Earl's public life during this portion of the Earl's governorship.

This album records the contemporary controversy within Australia over the appointment of governors, between those in favour of a local appointment and those seeing advantages in the appointment of persons with good connections to the Imperial court, and details of the coverage the Governor and his family received in the press during the period of uncertainty concerning his term of appointment and the nomination of his successor, coverage of the Countess leaving the continent and speculation on the Governor's early retiral. As well as the newspaper coverage, the album includes copies of confidential correspondence on those questions.

The photographs included in the album are mainly Australian scenes, including photographs of aborigines, camel trains, and militia parades. Additionally this album contains receipts, correspondence and ephemera collected by the Countess on her journey from Australia to Great Britain.
