- from various peers, in response to a request for election fund donations;

- from Lord Kincoll, concerning the unavailability of a Conservative candidate for Montrose Burghs;

- from several peers, explaining absences from the House f Lords and from Royal Commissions; and

- from Lords Southesk and Elphinstone, concerning the possibility of electing a Liberal among the Scottish representative peers in 1885.
