from General Morris regarding the appointment of Mr Keith as Collector of Montrose 1779

from Dr Alexander Dauney, 2 October 1798, referring to his stay in London and discussing the news of the British victory at the Battle of the Nile, which had just reached London that day: "All is uproar here today with the great news from the Mediterranean - Eleven ships taken, two sunk: none of ours lost! about 6000 French killed, and upwards 700 British. It is a most compleat affair. It must have the most beneficial consequences in regard to a general pacification. There will be a general illumination tonight in London ..."
