Description | Letter from Lady Mayne, Gatton Park, to Mary Beattie, Aberdeen, mentioning Lord Mansfield's [William Murray (1705 - 1793), first earl of Mansfield, judge and politician] and Lady Mayne's discussion at dinner about Mr Beattie and ?Lady Mayne's signing of Beattie's subscription. Mentions that a Lord C B Smithe was asked to sign the list and that he had already signed Mrs Montagu's list. Letter talks about Lord Mansfield telling Sir William and Lady Mayne not to answer Priestly. Letter says that Lady Cowper [?Cooper] is with Lady Mayne and that Cowper had subscribed to Mrs Delany. Letter says that Lady Mayne will write to Mrs Montagu at Tunbridge about Cowper's subscription. Letter talks about the arrival of Mary's parents and their taking a house in ? Street. Lady Mayne writes that if the Beatties are able, they should visit Mary's parents. |
