Administrative HistoryMary (Mally Beattie) (1744 - 1807), Beattie's wife. Beattie met her when he boarded with her father on first coming to Aberdeen in 1758. They married in 1767.
DescriptionLetter from Mary Beattie, Edinburgh, to her father, Dr. James Dun, Aberdeen, relating to the arrival of the Beatties after travelling on the ferries; the Beatties' health - Mrs Beattie is feeling better after having a sore stomach and she says Mr Beattie's health is improving. Mentions Mr Beattie's intention to write the next letter to Dr. Dun and explains that Mr Beattie was too busy with his friends to write the present letter. Mrs Beattie asks after her parents, John [her brother] and 'little' James [her son, James Hay Beattie], and tells her father not to write too much as she knows that he does not like writing. Mrs Beattie writes to say that her mother's grandson, 'William', is well. Also writes about Mr Stuart and mentions that he had supper and just finished having breakfast with the Beatties. Mentions 'Brilly', and the fact that Mrs Beattie does not like writing. Explains that the Beatties will dine at home that night with Lady Baird, Doctor Gregory and some other people; that the Gregories were also seeing the Beatties that morning; and mentions the invitation from the Gregories to dine with them the next day. Mrs Beattie says she is not worried about 'Jamie' [presumably her son], and she will wait until they are in England before writing to Lady Meldrum.
