Administrative HistoryMary (Mally Beattie) (1744 - 1807), Beattie's wife. Beattie met her when he boarded with her father on first coming to Aberdeen in 1758. They married in 1767.
DescriptionLetter from Mary Beattie, Peterhead, to Lady Mayne, talking about receiving the bottle of Valerian; asking after the health of Lady Mayne, Sir William and Miss Graham and the Beatties' arrival in Peterhead. Mentions Mr Beattie cutting his shin after walking among rocks in July and Mrs Beattie drinking Peterhead water. Mrs Beattie writes that she tried the cold sea bath and is feeling much better. Letter talks about Jamie, and Mr Beattie's offer of an Episcopal parish carrying £500 per annum, which was to be 'at his service if he chose to take up service', but he declined upon the advice of Lady Mayne. Mrs Beattie's letter talks about Lady Mayne staying at Gatton Park and describes the town of Peterhead and how the 'fashionable' people live there. Mentions the Beatties' visit to Lord and Lady Erroll. Mrs Beattie writes that they are unable to accept Mrs Montagu's invitation to meet her in Northumberland as their health is not well. Mrs Beattie asks to be remembered to the Misses Burns and ends her letter by writing that Mr Beattie received a letter from Lady Mayne.
