Administrative HistoryWilliam Cameron [1751-1810] attended an MA course from 1766 to 1770, and Beattie likely taught him in his final year. He bacame Minister at Kirknewton, near Edinburgh in 1786. He was intermediary for Hugh Blair in approaching Beattie about new metrical versions for the psalms in 1778, and he later wrote a continuation for the Minstrel that was published posthumously in 1813
DescriptionRecently had a conversation with Dr Blair about the proposed new Psalmody. Blair despaired of getting proper materials. Cameron mentioned Beattie's plan of compiling a new additional Psalmody from the best version extant. A few days later, Blair wrote to Cameron saying the plan was excellent, and Beattie the best person to undertake it. Cameron advises Beattie to do what best suits his convenience
