Description
Adam Ferguson appointed to travel as tutor to Earl of Chesterfield. Moral philosophy chair will become vacant at £400 p.a. All Beattie's friends in Edinburgh would be happy to see him in the post. Suggests people who might be canvassed: Provost Gilbert Laurie, Sir Laurence Dundas, Lord Dartmouth, Lord Kinnoull. Robertson suggests letter from Lord Mansfield to Provost would carry great weight
