Administrative History	Alexander Duncan [ 1706-1795]. Marischal college 1725-1729; DD King's College 1773. Minister of Smailholm, Roxburghshire from 1743, Sir Walter Scott was his parishioner as a child, and he his commemorated in the Introductionto the third canto of the Marmion. Author of several religious works.
Description	Thanks Duncan for the good intention with which he states some objections to Evidences. Beattie's opinion concerning the dignity of Christ's person and character conincides exactly with Duncan's. Discusses in details the comments that Duncan had made. Likely that Jesus was a carpenter for some time, and no evidence that he lived in the wilderness from his childhood to his baptism. Agrees with Duncan that Beattie should not have said that after his resurrection Jesus ate and probably drunk with his disciples. The word probably is unnecessary and contradicted by Acts of the Apostle. Explains why could not visit Merton and Mr and Mrs Scot on his return from England last year.
