Lady (Frances) Mayne, later Lady Newhaven [d. 1801]. Wife of Sir William Mayne. Formerly Frances Allen, the heiress of a considerable estate in Ireland. She kept up a correspondence with Beattie and his wife for some years
Description
Sad letter about Mrs Beattie's mental disorder. He was advised to leave home, but college business prevented him from doing it at the time. He spent five weeks at Gordon Castle, than he went to Edinburgh for five or six weeks and returned to Aberdeen a week ago. When he found out that he could not live at home he and his son left for Peterhead where he intend to stay for a month or until he can think a plan of future arrangements for his family. He has not seen Mrs Beattie for four months.
