Lady (Frances) Mayne, later Lady Newhaven [d. 1801]. Wife of Sir William Mayne. Formerly Frances Allen, the heiress of a considerable estate in Ireland. She kept up a correspondence with Beattie and his wife for some years
Description
On family life and Mrs Beattie's health issues. These have prevented him from taking more active part in anything but duties of office. About the General Assembly of the Kirk of Scotland and their view on the American rebellion. The role of John Witherspoon [1723-94], who became the principal ofthe University of Princeton, and a signer of the Declaration of Independence.
