Administrative History	Dr Alexander Allan Cormack (1891-1976), (MA 1913), son of William Cormack, born Bankhead, Newhills 20/06/1891. He was headmaster at Rosemount Secondary School. In retirement he started bringing together his research into Susan Scott Carnegie. As a result of his research he published the books 'Susan Carnegie 1744-1821: her life of service', Aberdeen University Press, 1966 and 'Two Aberdeenshire Spas, Peterhead and Pannanich with some account of Susan Carnegie', Aberdeen University Press, 1982. Susan Scott Carnegie (1744-1821) of Charleton, near Montrose was a philanthropist and is most famed for helping to found the Montrose Lunatic Asylum.

Description	Includes the letters, family correspondence and fragments of literary compositions of Carnegie. Also includes the research notes of Cormack. For more information see a survey in 'Northern Scotland', volume 4, issues 1 & 2 (one volume) 1981, p. 134
Arrangement	The papers were originally in Dr Cormack's miscellaneous files. They have now been sorted into three principal categories, two of them concerning the manuscripts of Susan Scott and the Carnegies. The files are not arranged in chronological order.
