Also includes copy of an essay on practical engineering (original in MS 2884/1/1/1), material relating to his engineering work (including detailed estimate of Railway Viaduct, North Esk, December 1848), a time book of work for 1846 detailing his surveying work, lines of poetry, and a Botany class ticket for summer session 1852. The last letter from Glasgow written by Richard Chalmers to his father, dated 11 December 1852, is also enclosed, together with a poem written after his death by Maggie Smith, a servant in the family, and a letter of condolence to his father.
