1520, November 23 Licence and protection under the Privy Seal in favour of James Arbuthnot of that ilk to go on pilgrimage to St John of Ameans. Fragment of Privy Seal affixed.
1527/8, February 2 Letters under the Signet dispensing with the minority of Robert Arbuthnot of that ilk, son and heir of the deceased James Arbuthnot of that ilk, and ordering the sheriff of Kincardine to proceed to the service of the said Robert in the lands and barony of Arbuthnot. 1549/50, March 13 Edinburgh: letter to the Laird of Arbuthnott from James, Earl of Arran, Governor of Scotland, stating that an English army was preparing to invade Scotland, and summoning Arbuthnot and his friends to Edinburgh on 13 April with 40 days' provisions. Signed.
1568, July 13 Edinburgh: letter to the Laird of Arbuthnott from James, Earl of Moray, Regent of Scotland, summoning Arbuthnot to Edinburgh on 14 April to attend a meeting of Parliament. Signed.
1575, December 20 Halyruidhouse: letter to the Laird of Arbuthnot from James, Earl of Morton, Regent of Scotland, stating that new pledges had been received from the broken men inhabiting the borders, and instructing Arbuthnot to release Tom Johnnestoun, son of David of the Bankis, and allow him to return home. Signed.
1580, October 22 Dunottar: letter to the Laird of Arbuthnot from George, Lord Keith, Master Marischal, thanking Arbuthnot for consenting to allow his eldest son to spend some time in Lord Keith's company and discussing the clothes etc. he should bring.
1581, April 23 Dunottar: letter to the Laird of Arbuthnot from William, Earl Marischal, regretting he has been unable to meet Arbuthnot's request for the loan of 'sick silver as ye wreitt'.
1583, May 7 Halyrudehous: letter to the Laird of Arbutnnot from James VI to introduce 'oure seruitour Alexander Young for ane speciall errand of ouris to be communicat to you.' Signed.
1587 Confirmation by James VI of charter of donation granted to him by Mr David Lindesay, minister at Leith, of all lands etc. belonging to the Carmelite friars of Inverbervie, and confirmation thereof previously granted. Signed.
1588, November 14 Halyruidhous: letter to the Laird of Arbuthnot from James VI summoning him to a meeting at Holyroodhouse on 24 November to assist in putting 'sum spedie ordour to the reformatioun of sindre thingis that ar amiss bayth in religioun and politie.' Signed.
1589, April 7 Edinburgh: letter to the Laird of Arbuthnot from James VI stating that there are bands of men in various parts of the kingdom 'dangerous to the trew religioun and to the inquieting of oure person and estait' and therefore summoning the laird to come with his friends and servants, armed with spears and hagbuts, as soon as possibl. Signed.
1589, August 30 Edinburgh: letter to the Laird of Arbuthnot from James VI stating that the King's marriage has been concluded and the Queen is due to arrive. Asks Arbuthnot to send as much beef, mutton, wildfowl and venison as he can to Walter Neasch, master of the larder. Signed.
1590, May 11 Halirudhous: letter to the Laird of Arbuthnot from James VI stating thatthe Queen's coronation is to be on 16 May, and asking Arbuthnot to send 'sic support of stuff and provision as ye haif already or is able to gett' to Andrew Melvile, master of the household. Signed.
1642, March License by the Lords of Council to Robert, Viscount of Arbuthnot, Sir John Carnegy of Craig, Sir Alexander Carnegie of Balnamone, William Rait of Halgrein and Robert Arbuthnot of Fyndowrie and their company to eat flesh during Lent, and upon Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, for the space of one yar. 1676, April 27 Edinburgh: letter from the Privy Council to the Viscount of Arbuthnot, captain of militia troop in the shire of Kincardine and Marshal's part of Aberdeen, ordering him to give notice to the commissioners of militia of a rendezvous of the militia troop under his command at Aberdeen on 3 June, to be mustered by the Muster Master General. Signed by the Earl of Rothes. With endorsement of the action taken on receipt of the letter.
1681, December 3 Edinburgh: certificate that Robert, Viscount of Arbuthnot, has taken the Test. Signed by William Paterson.
