| Administrative History | The Aberdeen Stock Exchange Association was set up in 1847, with fifteen founding members, for stock and sharebrokers whose place of business was in Aberdeen. As well as an election for new members, who had to be sponsored by two existing members, there was a fifty pound entry fee, plus annual subscription of five pounds, though the entry fee was reduced for partners in a firm where one partner had already paid the full fee. The Association fixed rates at which business was to be done in the Exchange and issued fines for not complying. It also laid down rules of business, with any business matters carried out under written contract. Prices of shares were to be published internally and in the newspapers and adhered to by members. The Association ceased to function around 1952. |
