Physical Description | All of the material in the Ogilvie-Forbes collection relating to America has been located and calendared but much of it is either very fragile or damaged by damp. Where it was not possible to film the original this is indicated and, if decipherable, a brief description of the contents is annexed. Some of the American papers were extracted in the 1920s by a senior member of the family, and typewritten transcripts prepared; these have been substituted ('transcript') wherever the original is missing or merely too fragile for filming. Part of the material, especially the latter sections of George Ogilvie's correspondence, consists not of incoming letters but copies of outgoing communications with replies entered in journal fashion. |
Copies | Microfilm. Some items could not be copied due to their poor condition. These are indicated in the catalogue. |
